ASSU

How It Works

The Nominations Commission (NomCom) is a body of undergraduate and graduate students charged with appointing students to various university committees which include the Board of Trustees, the Office of the President & Provost, Academic Council, and Student Affairs. It is essential that student voices shape University policies and NomCom makes this possible!

Serving on a university committee allows you to directly impact the Stanford community in unique ways. Committee members have opportunities to present their perspectives on student life and academic policies. Undergraduate and graduate students from all disciplines are encouraged to apply to serve on committees with open positions and you may express interest in other committees as well. Committee terms begin in the fall quarter and last for a year.

The process for applying to a University Committee has changed. We will host information sessions in Week 4 and Week 6 of this quarter to discuss these changes. Look out for more information on dates, times, and locations. Please come to learn more about the various university committees or to ask us any questions you may have about your application. Both sessions will last approximately one hour.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis through to Week 6 of Winter Quarter. Applicants will be invited to sign up for interviews by February 16, 2019. Interviews will be conducted between the 7th-8th weeks of the Winter Quarter.

University Committees are critical to allowing students’ voices to be heard at the administrative level. The Board of Trustees, the Academic Council, the Provost, the President, the Dean of the School of Humanities and Sciences, the Dean of Student Affairs, and the Chief Information Officer convene almost 50 committees for yearlong terms to address a variety of issues affecting all walks of student life. Applications are released in Fall and Spring Quarter.
